US officials have disclosed that a leader of the Islamic State (IS) terror group, Hafiz Saeed Khan, died in a US drone strike last month. Hafiz Saeed Khan was thought to be the leader of IS in Pakistan and Afghanistan and is thought to have died in a drone attack in Afghanistan’s eastern province of Nangarhar on July 26.

Some of his allies and associates were also reportedly killed in the airstrike.

A Pentagon spokesman Gordon Trowbridge said; “Khan was known to directly participate in attacks against US and coalition forces, and the actions of his network terrorized Afghans, especially in Nangarhar,”

The airstrike came just days after one of the deadliest attacks in Afganistan which left 80 people dead and which was claimed by IS.
