Nigeria Pips Tanzania 1-0 In AFCON Qualifier

Gernor Rohr began his time as Super Eagles technical adviser with a 1-0 win over Tanzania at the Goodswill Akpabio stadium on Saturday.

The game’s importance perhaps contributed to what was a low profile affair, as Nigeria will not be featuring in the African Cup of Nations despite the win.

The Super Eagles dominated the game from start to finish, showing some glimpses of good football but ultimately failing to score in the first half. The Eagles missed chance after chance and one had the feeling the Nigerian team would rue their spurned chances.

Victor Moses was particularly wasteful in front of goal while Odion Ighalo looked jaded. Nigeria continued to press in the second half and their persistence eventually paid off. Manchester City striker, Kelechi Iheneacho scored a scorcher from distance in the 77th minute to hand Nigeria the win to settle the affair.
