PDP Candidate, Sekibo Takes Commanding Lead In Rivers Rerun Elections

Senator George Sekibo

The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in  the Saturday rerun elections in Rivers State, George Sekibo, is reportedly leading his fiercest rival from the All Progressive Congress, APC, Andrew Uchendu with a very wide margin.

According to reports, in the total results of the 6 Local Governments counted so far, Sekibo has polled a total of 77,691 votes, while Uchendu is trailing at a distance with  27,754.

The seat of the Rivers East Senatorial District became opened after the court of appeal sitting in Abuja sacked Sekibo late last year and ordered a fresh election.

However, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have had troubles conducting a re-run as a result of widespread violence in the state each time the election is to be conducted.
