The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Engr David Babachir Lawal, has denied reports making the rounds that he accused Christians of praying for the death of ailing President Muhammadu Buhari, over the weekend.
The SGF was quoted to have said during a service over the weekend, that “Christians all over the country are praying for the president to die, so that the vice-president, Osinbajo, can take over.”
Babachir, in a reaction, called for sanity and objectivity in the representation of his true speech.
“All I was trying to highlight was the fact that we love each other, as well as our leaders, less and less. If we truly love each other, we would not be happy that so-and-so is ill and for so-and-so to take over, for some reasons.
“That is not in the spirit of national unity. These are the things which divide us and we must not let them continue. That was what I was trying to underline. I was, in no way, accusing Christians of being hateful; I merely made an analogy. I did not kick against Christians. I have no reason to,” the SGF said of the statement made at the worship service over the weekend.
This is as the SGF joined Nigerian pilgrims to pray for the restoration and perfection of President Muhammadu Buhari’s health and for Acting President Yemi Osinbajo at Mount Zion, Jerusalem.
Speaking to the pilgrims, the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Christian Pilgrims Commission ( NCPC), Rev Tor Uja, said having an honest man like President Muhammadu Buhari to lead the country is an opportunity Nigerians should not miss.
He said a nation like Nigeria with all the symbols of greatness can only be built to last by those who have been established on the enduring virtues of Christ.
Uja admonished Christians to live up to their calling in Christ and lead by example in being strategic in their reasoning and planning.
