Tory Lanez Arrested on Gun & Drug Charges in Florida

Canadian hip hop recording artist Tory Lanez just hit a roadblock in his young career. On Wednesday, he was arrested in Florida’s Broward County on drug and gun charges.

According to the Florida Sun-Sentinel, an expired dealer’s tag on his 2014 Rolls-Royce prompted Miramar police to stop the burgeoning star. In addition to the expired tag, Lanez lacked a valid driver’s license, which prohibits the Canadian star from driving anywhere in the United States. According to a police report, cops discovered 20 grams of marijuana in his glove box. As they continued to search his car, they found an unloaded gun in the center console.

Lanez faces charges of “failing to register a motor vehicle; operating a vehicle without a valid license or insurance; marijuana possession; and carrying a concealed firearm,” the Sentinel reports. Lanez’s lawyer spoke to the Sentinel and vows that his client will be “fully exonerated once all the facts come to light.” The singer was released after posting a $1,000 bond.

In 2016, Lanez released his debut album I Told You. The project landed at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 during its opening week. The album boasted top 40 singles on the Billboard Hot 100, including “Say It” and “Luv.” Earlier this year, he released two mixtapes back-to-back with New Toronto 2 and Chixtape 4. Next month, Lanez is slated to join Future on his Nobody Safe Tour with Migos and Kodak Black.
