Cult members remanded in prison for smashing teenager’s head

An Ebute-Metta Chief Magistrate’s Court, Lagos has remanded two suspected cult members, Sikiru Ajibade and Gafar Isah, in Kirikiri Prison for allegedly smashing the head of a teenager, Charles Igbinovia, killing him in the process.

Ajibade, aka Farakin, 34, and Isah, aka Eti, 25, who allegedly belong to the O-Strong and Ijikenji confraternities, were charged with murder.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the court did not hear their pleas as the Chief Magistrate, Mr. M. O. Olajuwon, said the court lacked the jurisdiction to hear murder cases.

He ordered the accused to be remanded in prison, pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions in the state.

The prosecutor, Babatope Julius, had told the court that the accused committed the offence in October 2016 on Lagos Island.

He alleged that the suspected cult members, had unlawfully killed Igbinovia by smashing his head with a stone.

The prosecutor said the offence violates Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The case was adjourned till February 28 for hearing on the DPP’s advice.
