If your ears have been itching to know what Nigerian legislators truly earn, then the wait is almost finally over as a newly elected legislator is ready to spill the tea.
Akin Alabi, owner of Nigerian sports betting company, NairaBet, has promised to tell Nigerians what he’ll earn as a lawmaker, when he starts to earn.
Alabi was just elected to represent Egbeda/Ona federal constituency of Oyo state, at the House of Representatives on the platform of the All Progressives Congress,APC at the just concluded National Assembly elections.
Speaking via his Twitter handle on Friday, the incoming legislator says the biggest problem with salaries of lawmakers, is because of the age-long tradition of secrecy surrounding it.

People will not believe it when legislators themselves say what they earn. The NASS must officially make public what legislators earn public. But as individuals, we can do our part by making it open.
My belief that legislators are doing themselves a disservice by being quiet about it. That is what is making people imagine different figures.
Transparency helps a lot. People like to be on the know. Even when they are not too cool with what is going on, when they are in the know, they defend you. That I’ve learnt over time.
