Army Announces Arrest Of Soldier Who Shot Dead A Motorcyclist In Abia Over N100

The Defence Headquarters has announced the arrest of the soldier responsible for killing of a motorcyclist for refusing to part with N100.

The incident is said to have occurred in Abia state on Wednesday, wherein a soldier, Corp Ajayi, with 2 other soldiers, shot dead Chima Nwaogu, commercial motorcyclist.

According to the army, disciplinary procedure has begun, and the soldier will be tried according to extant military law — If the soldier is found guilty, the army said that be would be handed over to the civil police for prosecution.

In a statement by the Defence headquarters on Saturday, it said it deeply regrets the unfortunate incident and extended its sincere condolence to the family of the deceased.

The statement reads: The soldier has since been arrested and detained. Disciplinary procedure is in progress. He will be tried according to extant military law and if found culpable will be dismissed and handed over to the Civil Police for prosecution.

The Nigerian Army deeply regrets this unfortunate incident and pray for the repose of the soul of the deceased, We also pray that the almighty God will strengthen his family, loved ones and the entire Abians for this irreparable loss.
