Condemnations have followed the visit of Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and his vice, Datti Baba-Ahmed to the residence of former military president, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida.
On Sunday, Obi posted images from his trip to Minna, Niger State as consultations continues ahead of the official commencement of the 2023 election campaign.
In the images that were released, Babangida and another former head of state, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, were seen chatting with Obi and Baba-Ahmed.
Obi wrote, “Today, my running mate, Dr Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed and I visited President Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, GCFR, at his home in Minna. He received us very warmly and we had insightful conversations on the state of affairs in our country.”
However, the images elicited condemnation from social media users.

You have visited Obasanjo, Babangida, etc. You have labeled Atiku your mentor. You have dined and wined with the people who have destroyed Nigeria till date, yet you say you are bringing in a New Nigeria! Peter, You are a selfish, manipulative man who should never be president! https://t.co/v2WsHQlZy7

Peter Obi, you are associating & trying to get the support of the father of corruption in Nigeria is sending the wrong signals. IBB is the main reason why we are where we are as a nation, he squandered the country's resources and annulled the most free and fair election, a pariah https://t.co/IITUxY2qz2

I will never forget IBB, he dispatched a mobile detachment on us in Unijos, it was in 1988, we stayed at home for 5 months. I watched a documentary on him last week, it brought many things home, ruling Nigeria is not for those in intellectual limbo. Godspeed. pic.twitter.com/ifOrQ7Divs

If I say I'm happy with @PeterObi & @dattibabaahmed going to see IBB, the man that legitimised corruption in #Nigeria, making it a policy tool during his 1995-1993 junta, I will be lying. That man was a cancer on Nigeria. https://t.co/TjIb88Fc1s
