Unknown Gunmen Attack Labour Party Members, Supporters in Enugu

Unknown gunmen attacked Labour Party members and supporters in Enugu West Senatorial District on Sunday.

The party members were holding a meeting in Awgu Community of Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State when the attack occurred.

The hoodlums, numbering about four, attacked the unsuspecting party faithful at the venue of the meeting, shooting sporadically to disperse the party members.

Reacting to the incident, the chairman of the party in the council area, Ikechukwu Igwebuike, told journalists that no life was lost in the attack but some members sustained injuries from the attack.

He said, “They just stormed the venue on three motorcycles and started firing,” adding that, “We believe strongly that this is the handiwork of the opposition party. The windshield of one of our members’ vehicles was shattered.”

The criminals later released a video showing how they destroyed some properties at the Labour Party building in Awgu.

After firing shots at the Labour leader’s car, the gunmen said they thank God they could defend the land from political jingoists stealing from their people.

The Police is yet to make a statement on the issue.
