Arsenal Set to Reveal Nigerian Opponents

For those who might have been doubting the possibility of Arsenal football club still coming to play in Nigeria as part of their preseason arrangements, latest developments show that not only is the team still planning to come and play in the country, but their Nigerian opponents have in fact been chosen and the identity of same will be made known on Wednesday, 27th June, 2012.

According to a spokesperson of Danjan Sports, the organizers of the tour, Mr David Omigie: “It was important to confirm Arsenal first-team squad’s arrival date. We have worked out ticket details and finalised the opposition”. The organizers of the tour have also announced that the sale of tickets will begin on the fourth of July, 2012, in select outlets nationwide.

Although Arsenal have been on African soil once before, in 1993, when they were in South Africa, this will be their first time in Nigeria. The Arsenal are expected in Nigeria on the 5th of August after their trip to Asia (China and Malaysia).

With the uprisings in the country, which has been affecting our soccer reputation negatively – e.g. Brazil’s rumored cancellation of a friendly match with Nigeria which had been slated for September – we hope this one will become as reality as we will love to have the Arsenal here in Nigeria.
