Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has commissioned 108 housing units in Durumi District of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
The housing project named ‘Evergreen Residences’ consists of 108 housing units of 5 and 4 bedroom maisonettes, 4 bedrooms terraces and 3 bedroom blocks of apartments. The project, together with another project consisting of over 400 residential units in the Lokogoma District also in Abuja is being executed at a total cost of N20 billion.
The Durumi housing project is a fully integrated real estate development project undertaken by Urban Shelter Limited in collaboration with the Kano State Pension Fund Trustees.
“We are proud to mention that the land on which the 108 Durumi Housing project has been executed is Kano State Pension Fund Trustees’ contribution to the partnership agreement with Urban Shelter and that commensurate with its investment,” said Kwankwaso, while commissioning the project at the weekend.
He expained that the Kano State Pension Fund Trustees had also invested in three other housing projects, the Kwankwasiyya, Amana and Bandirawo cities, all located in Kano.
“It is noteworthy that this project is not the only one between Kano State and the Urban Shelter Limited. The Promade Estate Lokogoma that consist of over 20 hectares of land owned by the Kano State Government is also ongoing and consists of over 400 residential units and being executed at the cost of over N13 billion. The project is expected to be worth about N20 Billion on completion,” he said.
“In our administration’s desire to diversify the investment outlook of the state as well as fully explore and utilize the state’s assets in a more productive and efficient manner we embarked on an unprecedented task of construction of three mega cities Kwankwasiyya, Amana and Bandirawo, which are today household names in Nigeria and beyond,” Kwankwaso noted.
The outgoing Kano governor used the opportunity to announce the signing of a new agreement for the sale of 286 units of houses and 44 hectares of land to a Chinese firm at the cost of over N5 billion for the establishment of China Town in Amana city, Kano State.
