Army/Shi’ite Clash: ‘Army Not Indicted In Commission’s Report’

Nasir El-Rufai and Justice Mohammed Lawal GarbaThe recently disbanded Kaduna State Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the December 12, 2015 clash between soldiers and members of the Shi’ite sect in Zaria, has debunked the speculation that it indicted the Nigerian Army.

The Justice Mohammad Garba commission almost two weeks ago, submitted the report of its findings to the Kaduna Government.

Although the contents of the report have not yet been made public, there were speculations the commission indicted the Army for the heavy use of force, which resulted in the death of hundreds of Shi’ite members.

A member of the commission, Sheikh Salihu Abubakar, yesterday said the speculation is not fair representation of their submission.

Sheikh Abubakar said he was shocked when some people came out to say that the commission had indicted the Army.

“If Nigerians want to be fair to all the parties, they should wait for the report to be released by the government and read all we said about the incident and the numerous submissions we received. Only reading the full report would enable Nigerians to know who to blame”, Sheikh Abubakar said.
