AMNESTY FOR THE NIGER DELTA MILITANTS TAKES OFF

From Naijaloft The amnesty granted by the federal government to the niger delta militants kicked off on August 6 with a little success.
The Disarmament process by the niger delta militants which is a core aspect of the amnesty has begun to bear fruits at the moment with a few of the niger delta militants having surrendered yet. So far in the centres both in Bayelsa state and Rivers state where the armed niger delta militants are supposed to surrender their weapons and receive state protection only 32 have stepped forward. Meanwhile the police have shown that they wont tolerate armed militancy by raiding an armoury belonging to the niger delta peoples volunteer force (NDVPF) and retrieved 26 AK 47 rifles and thousands of live ammunition. On the other hand the movement for the emancipation of the niger delta (MEND) has stated that it wont give up in the armed struggle until the niger delta crisis is resolved.
