Minister of Education
Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB), has concluded arrangement to effect the commencement of its new common entrance examination into tertiary institutions in the country in 2010. The new examination, which is called Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), has been slated for April 17, 2010. Last week, the board organised a sensitisation programme across the country to create awareness about the new examination.
UTME is the unification of Universities Matriculation Examination (UME) and Monotechnics, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Matriculation Examination (MPCEME) under a single matriculation examination called UTME (Universities Tertiary Matriculation Examination).
The new policy came as a result of attempts by the Federal Government and all concerned stakeholders in the education sector to solve the problems of access and the quality of entrants into tertiary institutions in Nigeria. In view of this, academic calendars and entry requirements for all tertiary institutions will be harmonised. According to JAMB, the policy was adopted to address the problem of inadequate centres and infrastructure, overstretching of existing facilities among others.
Education Tribune gathered that the minimum requirements for entry into any tertiary institution under UTME are five Ordinary Level credit passes including English Language and Mathematics where applicable. Now, candidates who do not satisfy the minimum requirements are not qualified for admission into tertiary institutions.
Alhaji Razaaq Lawal, Oyo State Zonal coordinator of the board, told Education Tribune that admissions would be sorted out in the order of preference indicated by the candidates. Once candidates have been admitted, they would not be presented for consideration in subsequent admission exercises.
‘’At the point of registration, candidates are required to make six choices of institutions as follows: two from universities; two from polytechnics; monotechnics/specialised institutions and two from colleges of education. This must be done in order of preference, beginning with the first choice (i.e. the ‘most preferred’, the ‘more preferred’ and the ‘preferred’), and all the three categories of tertiary institutions will have the same national cut-off point for admissions.
‘’Candidates are required to make their choices of institutions or courses in order of preference. All candidates will write the same examination, which is four subjects, including the Use of English, and the results of the UTME will be used for the placement of suitably qualified candidates into the three categories of tertiary institutions according to their preferences.
‘’Candidates are expected to purchase the UTME registration scratch cards from JAMB offices or authorised banks, between January and Febuary15,2010,’’he said.
However, while many welcome this development as a way of checkmating post UME others argue that it will return us to those days when students bribe their way into admission.

This new method sounds good to me. At least for the fact that with one exam, a candidate can secure more admission opportunities than before when a candidate would have to keep buying different forms and sitting for different examination in other to secure admission opportunity. please is there any extention time for registration cause i have been trying to register since last month but due to passport that i didnt uploaded it was rejected. now that i am trying to re-register the exams town options was not showing atall.

My brother has been trying to register online since 28th of January, but the website is always bringing this message “the site is temporary suspended” of which i called one of the number at the back of the scratch card, a lady picked the call, insructing me to send my brother’s pin and serial number with an MTN recharge card worth N750. If JAMB has closed why are they still selling form? If that is not 419 then what is it? Afterall they extended the date to 16th of February 2010. It will not be suprising if they call it network failure – that is Nigeria for you where nothing works smoothly. I pray that whoever is incharge of the network should please do something about it before the closure.

Yes you can change your course, name, institution and the rest but you need to purchase a change of course and others scratche card in their office after the release of the result and at after two weeks cause during that time the website will be close for a moment and be reopened

The issue is what ever they are doing it should depend on the cut off mark, l believe that there will be post ume since admission is not given to any one instead you are not yet addmited, on a comprehensive note, it means we have to wait for post=ume, those above 200 should always feel relieve, just read for your fouth coming exams. jamb should note some thing that is only those that sat for there exams scole 190 t0 230 some as well scole 250, they should vet through and allow post=ume because it prove what you are not what you are given, come tell what you are made off!!.

Jamb is nt a true test of knwledge. It should be scrab!! Imagin reason 4 WITHELDING a student dat probably Prepared very hard 4 his exams: BECAUSE OF LATENESS. Many candidate had 0/nil probably they didn’t shade subject type, or claim paper type different 4rm d one given 2 them. wel d latter is nt d case as i changed 2 diff subj. Paper type given 2 me n stil scored in them (though i prayed, i thank GOD). They now bring politics in marking the results of people that is the country vision of hope 4 the future.they are happy at the speed in which they released the result not the accuracy. A result that was released without phy became pending and now witheld, reason: wide spread cheating. A person who scored 45 in eng,47 in maths, and 59 in chem. My advice to all jambites and undergraduates is to desist from exam malpractice which has become a culture in our education system. It is better to fail with honor than to cheat and pass. Exam malpractise is the nucleus of the widespread corruption that has contaminated virtually every aspect of our national affairs including JAMB. Don’t 4get we’re the futures of 2morrow.

Lagos — Determined to put in place error-free biometric capturing system for 2011 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) has successfully carried out a pilot scheme aimed at test-running its validity and reliability.

Speaking shortly after the launch of the pilot scheme, JAMB registrar, Professor ‘Dibu Ojerinde, advised
candidates for the 2011 UTME to appreciate their thumbs and not to do anything that can prevent them from being captured. He said that thumb-printing done during registration would be repeated at all examination centres, otherwise they would not be admitted for the examination.

The registrar said the Biometric Capturing System had been designed to separate the candidates on the basis of centres, hence if a candidate is not registered in a particular centre, he or she can only be captured against that centre and nowhere else.
Disclosing to the prospective candidates some far-reaching innovations expected in future exams, he said the introduction of Literature in English is aimed at encouraging reading culture and sound intellectual traditions in pupils.

His words: “As from next year, we are poised to conduct e-examination as we would have provided all necessary ICT (Information and Communication Technology) infrastructure to make this happen.”

Two schools in the Bwari Area Council namely Federal Government Girls’ College and Government Secondary School, Kuduru, Bwari participated in the pilot scheme, while Victoria Chisom Emechebe and Leonard Lovemore led the pack of candidates used for the demonstration exercise in their respective schools.
