Unmarried Couple Stoned to Death in Mali

The first reported sharia killing by Islamists in northern Mali took place on Sunday when an unmarried couple was stoned to death in Aguelhok. Since they occupied the area, the Al-Qaeda linked Islamist group has been putting a lot of up pressure on the interim government of President Dioncounda Traore.

This execution is coming against the backdrop of the interim government’s finalizing of the process of forming a unity government – an action which foreign partners have demanded of it, latest by Tuesday, in order to be able to take decisive action against the jihadists who have divided the nation into two.

Meanwhile, as the country’s leaders grappled for solutions to the crisis in the nation, the Al-Qaeda linked Islamists grew bolder, dragging a rural couple to the centre of the town of Aguelhok on Sunday for a public stoning.

According to a local government official who spoke on condition of anonymity, “I was there. The Islamists took the unmarried couple to the centre of Aguelhok. The couple was placed in two holes and the Islamists stoned them to death… The woman fainted after the first few blows.” Information also has it that the couple had two children the youngest of which was six months old.

  4. @Slasher, all religion has extremist & fanatics so don’t generalize the acts of some of these extremist or fanatics to the entire Muslims world. Islam is facing a great problem from the media as it kept been painted daily as a terrible religion because the non Muslims owns the world media today. Ignorance of the religion Islam by non Muslim is also a fact that contributes enormously to it been seen as a terrorist religion. Well, I must tell u the truth is always seen as the wrong, the right path is always filled with obstacles and very difficult to accept. This was the case of Jesus Christ who wasn’t accepted until he was gone so what can u say about Islam & its criticism fueled by the media & Ignorance. All I know is that the Islam that I know is a peaceful religion & encourages peace, a lot of people who call themselves Muslims are only been extreme in faith & that’s not proper but they shouldn’t be seen as the face of Islam.

  6. I do hear christians saying the wage of evil is death. The God who created us says if you do good paradise will be yours and if you do bad hell fire will be yours. That is the law and it bends for no man. If it is true that the couple were stoned to death, do you find out their crimes? When God created this world He did not leave it in vacuum, but He furnished it with rules and regulations we must follow. Evils are spread all over the world because of the negligence of laws and punishment. Slasher you called yourself, nobody is forcing you to be a muslim. Despite the fact that muslims do not campaign or advertise islam in the media and other devices in the name of deliverance, miracles, worldly riches, etc, islam is still consistently spreads in the air like wind. Nobody can stop or change islam no matter how you colour it, it remains what it is . It is religion of peace and tolerance.

So they are blinded by all the negativities of being moslem, instead of reasoning that why does this religion preach revenge? Why does this religion preach jihad? Why does this religion promote violence and not forgiveness? Formed by a group of ruthless men riding on horsebacks and they believed it was God(Allah) that instructed them to form a new religion! They killed and waged war with impunity and forced people to join them, anyone that refused will be beheaded! But you and all of us need courage and the grace of God to see the truth and do the right thing….it is like a mother who despite her child committing murder and destruction, she will still love him/her…how do you convince the mother to turn from her child bcos he is a killer and a thief?? God say in our Qur’an: chapter 2. Verse 32: ”On that account: we ordained for the children of Israel(Jews,christains e.t.c.) that if any one slew(kill) a person-unless be it for murder or spreading mischief(corruption) in land- it will be as if he slew(kill) the whole of mankind…” u c even xtains nd d jews were allow 2 kill 4 just cause or reason. But dont they kill 4 unjust cause now? Even d issue of boko haram now- many christians have been caught with bombs nd other destructive weapons. 2day in our civilised world we derogate God’s law nd use man’s thought- d so called constitution 2 rule man into destructive life.   28. Yusuph u are right. The Qur’an chapter 2 verse 256 that: ”Let there be no compulsion in religion…” pls i advice u xtains 2 get a copy of our Qur’an- d one with translation and commentary. I equally have a bible(the revise standard version). By so u will understand islam very much. And as 4 u ‘the voice’ i will not retaliate bcos d qur’an says in chapter 2:108 : ”Revile not…”. But i want u 2 also think that all religions have sects and our sects are few compared 2 yours- the mountain of fire, assembly of God, chatolic, bible tumphers, jehovah witness and so on.

Islamic law requires stringent conditions b 4 it is implemented. 4 example, in d case of adultery, if d victim(s) is/are not married(fornication), it is not capital punishment but flogging. In addition, d penalty 4 adultery can only b applied if there are 4 witnesses who saw everything personally in graphic detail, not guessing. How can this open adultery happen in a society that has d slightest decency? It would b almost impossible 2 actually indict someone. I dont know whether d mali islamic sect undergo through d basic processes. And finally, islamic punishment is 2 serve as deterrent 2 others.
