Akpabio Did Not Rig Election To Favour Senator Etok – AKSG

Godswill AkpabioThe Akwa Ibom state government has denied that Senator Alloysius Etok, representing Ikot Ekpene Senatorial district was imposed on the people of the area by the state Governor, Godswill Akpabio explaining that the choice of the senator was the outcome of due political process.

In a statement issued on Monday by the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Aniekan Umanah, the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including Akpabio, presented Etok as the best candidate in the 2007 district election.

The statement explained that the party hierarchy in the spirit of fairness and inclusiveness, supported the candidacy of Etok as Ini/Ikono, a minority part of the district had never produced a senator.

The commissioner who noted that Akpabio was misunderstood in the video where he purportedly confessed to removing the name of the winner and replacing with Etok’s name, enjoined all well meaning Nigerians to ignore the attempt to malign the person and office of the governor while admonishing the media not to allow it to be used in a new wave of attack against Akpabio.

Umanah said in the complete video, the governor went further to explain what he meant and how the choice of Etok was arrived at and stated that as a true Nigerian who was elected on popular mandate, Akpabio had never, and would never engage in the rigging of election at any level.

He emphased that the governor is a true democrat who will always support and promote efforts geared towards deepening Nigeria’s growing democracy.
