A senior member of staff of the Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mr. Anselm Odo, who is suffering from renal failure, received a lifeline Monday when a former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar made a contribution of N1.5 million to ongoing fund raising efforts to support his treatment.
Odo requires about N7 million for a transplant surgery for which the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Abuja Council, is carrying out an appeal fund.
The donation was made by Garba Shehu, Atiku’s spokesman at the council secretariat, Abuja. Atiku said he was moved by the plight of Odo, following the appeal of the NUJ, on his behalf.
According to him, as a long time friend of the media and also a media owner, he is aware of the challenges journalists’ face which explains why he is always willing to support matters that concern them.
