Improvement As NECO Releases Nov/Dec Results… Kano, Lagos Top Exams Malpractice List

The National Examination Council (NECO) on Wednesday released the November/December 2012 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) with Kano and Lagos states respectively topping the list of states with high incidence of exams malpractice.

Giving a breakdown, Registrar of the council, Professor Promise Okpala told newsmen in Minna that 21, 274 cases of exams malpractice was recorded across the country with Kano having the highest incidences of malpractice with 649 candidates, representing 13.96 percent out of 4,646 while Lagos state came second with 238 cases out of 6, 508 candidates – this was in sharp contrast with the FCT which had the lowest incidence with only five cases out of 1,322 candidates that sat for the exams.
He said the body also recorded an improvement over last year’s result with 25, 630 out of 75, 623 candidates that sat for the exams passing with credit in English Language, representing 33. 89 percent compared to 10.0 percent in 2011.
He added that 41, 228 also passed with credit out of 75, 245 candidates that sat for Mathematics, representing 54.79 percent which indicated an improvement over  2011 result that recorded 44.7 percent.
Okpala said 83, 755 candidates registered for the examination out of which only 75, 623 candidates sat for the examination.
