Two Fulani herdsmen have been arrested by the police in Benue State in connection with the invasion on Ichama community of Okpokwu Local Government Area which left five persons dead and several cows missing.
Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ezeala, who announced the suspects’ arrest, said they were nabbed yesterday by security personnel as they attempted to escape to neighbouring Enugu State.
Also confirming the development, Chairman of the council, Juliana Obetta, lauded the police for the feat. She added that the 43 cows carted away by the herdsmen during their attack have been recovered and returned to its rightful owners, the Catholic Diocese in Ichama.
She also expressed her appreciation to youths in the area for assisting security operatives in the operation.
Information Nigeria recalls that unknown gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen attacked the Ichama community on Monday night but the involvement of the herdsmen was denied by the state secretary of Myetti Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria, Garus Gololo.
