Delta Police Foil Pre-Dawn Robbery Attack On Bank In Asaba

NPFA robbery attack on a branch of Sterling bank  in Asaba, Delta state on Sunday morning, was foiled by men of the state police command.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Lucky Uyabeme, at a press briefing disclosed that at about 2am, at Sterling bank, Nnebisi road, Asaba, police patrol team from ‘A’ division Asaba engaged a gang of robbers numbering about twelve, who came in three vehicles to rob the bank in a fierce exchange of gunfire.

According to ASP Uyabeme, investigations into the case revealed the possibility of an insider’s collaboration with the robbers as the bank safe was open and the CCTV tampered with.

He said the two keys that should be with two different senior officials of the bank are in the possessions of the operation manager.

The robbers were forced to abort the mission and escape with bullet wounds while the team leader of the patrol team sustained a bullet injury and is responding to treatment in the hospital. He also added that the Police patrol van was damaged in the attack.

Items recovered at the scene were 53 empty shells, AK 47 rifle ammunition, one Mazda 626 car with Lagos registration number, KTU 343 BJ, green in color with two gas cylinders, one shifting spanner and one digger inside.

Others are one ford Mondeo LX car with registration number Lagos, EA 280 APP, dark green in color, one pathfinder jeep also with Lagos registration number, BS 247 EPE, ash in color with a constructed armoury, two AK 47 magazines, with one containing four rounds of live ammunition.

According to the state police image maker, a statewide manhunt for the fleeing hoodlums is still ongoing while medical practitioners, traditional healers in the state have been advised to report any persons with gunshot wounds, who come for treatment to security agencies.
