The Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr Olu Abolurin, on Thursday in Lagos warned that accidental discharge was a capital offence.
Abolurin, therefore, warned officers and men of the NSCDC to avoid accidental discharge with their weapons.
The commandant general, who was represented by Mr Laggard Osemwigie, the Assistant Commandant-General, Zone A of the company, gave the warning at the passing-out parade of 146 officers, trained by the Nigerian Army in arms handling and other combatant drillings.
“Accidental discharge is a capital offence. In NSCDC, there is nothing like accidental discharge. You have been trained on arms handling, this should guide you in the discharge of your duties.
“The four weeks training is meant to help corps members to discharge their responsibilities as expected of them.
“Since the constitution of the nation empowered NSCDC to carry arms, we have been improving ourselves on the necessary skills needed to discharge our duties.”
The command general, who commended the army and the Lagos Government for their assistance, however, requested more help from the State Government.
Gov. Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, represented by his Special Adviser on Security Matters, retired Maj. Tunde Panox, described the job of the NSCDC as noble and commendable for securing government property.
Fashola urged the officers to serve the interest of the people, saying that they should not aid crime where ever they were posted to, stressing the need for synergy among security agencies.
Lt.-Col. Mohammed Ahmed of the 192 Battalion, who represented the army, noted that the NSCDC operatives were yet to be proficient in gun handling, stressing that more of such training would assist the operatives to do well in their jobs.
“You should continue to improve on what you have learnt. If need be, some of you may be lunched into usual combat. You all must be loyal to your superiors; you must not oppress those that you should guard,” Ahmed said.
The police, Akran of Badagry, Navy, Prisons, Immigration, NDLEA, EFCC, SSS, NAPTIP and FRSC were represented at the event. (NAN)

Sir you are very correct, at least it will help improve the security system & reduce challenges faced when you have diligent & disciplined security personnel. This is possible through various training, enforcement of the code of conduct and taking disciplinary actions against those who deviate.
