Okorocha Inaugurates 50-Member Elders’ Advisory Committee

Rochas Okorocha (2)Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo has inaugurated the state’s Elders’ Advisory Committee for the smooth running of the state.

This is contained in a statement signed by a media aide to the governor, Mr William Unadike, issued on Monday in Owerri.

It said that members of the committee were drawn from the 27 Local Government Areas of the state.

It also said that the over 50 committee members were saddled with the responsibility of advising the government on some of its policies and programmes.

The release said that the committee was also to ensure that government’s programmes and policies were in line with the wishes and aspirations of the electorate.

Inaugurating the committee at the Sam Mbakwe Expanded Exco, Government House, Okorochas urged the members to interact with the royal fathers, House of Assembly members and to review the free education programme of his administration.

The statement said the committee would also interface with the governor’s administration on the issue of security, palm for palm programmes and formation of senior citizens club.

It said the body would produce a position paper for the proposed national dialogue.

Okorocha urged the committee members to see their assignment as crucial to the progress of his rescue mission.

The Chairman of the committee, Mr Hilary Ihueze, thanked the governor for giving them the opportunity to serve.

He promised that members of the committee would discharge their duties with diligence. (NAN)
