The Arewa Youth Forum on Thursday faulted the designation of Boko Haram and Ansaru as a Foreign Terrorist Organisation by the United States Government, saying the development would only pose more security challenges for the nation.
The National President of the AYF, Alh Gambo Gujungu, who made this known in an interview with Vanguard, said rather than curtail the activities of the terrorist sects, the move would fuel terrorism.
He also argued that it was wrong to declare a faceless group, whose members are largely unknown, as a FTO.
He said, “The Federal Government has failed in unmasking those behind the Boko Haram attacks and has been spending our resources looking for attackers after each attack.
“It is painful that despite all the intelligence available to Nigeria and the U.S, the real brains behind the terrorists have not been fished out.
“Rather than classifying these groups as FTO, the FG and the U.S should fish them and their sponsors out. We cannot say whether these terrorists are Muslims given the level of their indiscriminate attacks on Muslims and Christians.
“But we are praying fervently to the Almighty Allah to expose those behind terrorism in Nigeria.
