FG Sets Up Panel On Implementation Of Boko Haram Amnesty C’ttee Report – VP Sambo

AmnestyThe uncertainty surrounding the report of the Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution of Security Challenges in the North has been laid to rest as the Federal Government has set up a panel to work out modalities for the implementation of the committee’s recommendations.

Vice-President Namadi Sambo gave the hint on Saturday at the first annual conference of the Ahlus-sunnah of Nigeria organised by the Izalatul Bid’a wa Ikamatus-Sunnah at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.

According to a statement by his spokesman, Umar Sani, the Vice-President represented President Goodluck Jonathan at the event, which was chaired by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar and attended by important dignitaries such as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal; former Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari; a representative of President Muhammadou Yousufou of Niger Republic as well as Kaduna and Osun state governors, among others.

“A committee has been set up to proceed with the implementation of the recommendations of the Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Conflict Resolution of Security Challenges in the North”, the statement quoted Sambo as saying.

The committee led by the Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Turaki, had submitted its report to the president since last November.

Sambo explained that government was committed to intra and inter-faith dialogues and consultations as the only alternative to conflict resolution, mutual tolerance, understanding, love and harmony.

He said the conference with the theme; ‘Peace and Unity for Sustainable Development’ was timely, especially in the face of insurrections particularly in the Northeast under the guise of religious agitations.

“It is obvious that there can never be any meaningful development in the absence of peace and unity”. Sambo reportedly said.

The vice president noted that as a country with a large percentage of Muslims, the Muslim Ummah should strive to be role models.
