The committee set up by the Gombe State Government to organize mass wedding for divorcees in the state, commenced screening of applicants, on Tuesday.
A Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria who visited the venue of the screening in Gombe, reports that the place was besieged by divorcees, spinsters and some male applicants, desperate to have partners.
The Chairman of the committee, Alhaji Aliyu Hassan, told NAN that the aim of the exercise was to ensure that applicants were not pregnant, or infected with the dreaded HIV.
He stated that before the exercise commenced, his committee toured the state to educate the people and distribute application forms to prospective applicants.
Hassan said that applicants were being attended to, based on their Emirates, adding that the exercise would be concluded next week Thursday.
