Confab: Bakare Debunks ‘Sell-Out’, Religious Bias Allegation

Vice presidential candidate of the now defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in the 2011 general elections and member of the Ogun State delegates for the forthcoming National Conference, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has dismissed the notion that there is a sell-out agenda by the six member delegation from the state.

He also dismissed the religious sentiment from the South-west region over the delegates selected for the conference.

Bakare in a radio program, Day Break Show on Rock city FM in Abeokuta, Ogun State capital yesterday, said the delegates from the state are such that their integrity cannot be compromised.

“So, thinking of selling out is not feasible. We know our mission and it is on how to move the country forward and ensure that the requests of our people are met”, he said.

The lawyer-turned preacher said the allegation from a cross section of Islamic groups that Muslims were not carried along is unfounded and should be rejected outrightly.

“Years back, we had Ajasin as governor and his deputy was also a Christian in the old Ondo state. In Ogun, we had Onabanjo as governor and Soluade as deputy, both Christians. In Lagos, we had Jakande and Jafojo, both Muslims. In the South-west here, there is no family that does not have adherents of both religions. We are not going for religious confab; we are going for national issues with no religious bias. So the talk about religion should be discarded forthwith. In any case, Fola Adeola is a very good Muslim from Ogun State and he is a member of the state delegates”, he added.
