Gowon Challenges Boko Haram To Come Out And Defend Acts Of Killings

gowonA former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon hasĀ urged the present administration to redouble its efforts at ending the mindless killings and mayhem across the country.

The radical Islamist sect, Boko Haram has continued to kill and maim innocent Nigerians in the Northeastern part of the country.

Gowon, who spoke at the National Youth Peace Concert held at the Eagle Square, Abuja on Saturday, also challenged the insurgents to come out and defend their acts of taking up arms against Nigeria.

He urged Nigerians to support government by providing useful information that will aid security forces in their fight against the insurgents.

Information Nigeria reports that the concert was organized by the Office of the First Lady and office of the Special Adviser to the President on Youth and Students Matters.

He said: ā€œI call on the Federal Government, using the various security agencies to vigorously work at ending the orgy of mindless killings and mayhem across the country. But the people can also help by making sure that they give intelligence of information of where these people are coming from.

ā€œAre they Nigerians that are doing these? If they are Nigerians, I challenge them to come out and defend their acts against their motherlandā€.

Calling on African leaders to rise to the occasion and put an end to the crisis ravaging different parts of the continent, Gowon said:Ā  ā€œMay I also use this medium to call on our leaders, not only in Nigeria but across Africa, to exercise the critical responsibility of leadership and rise up to the challenge of providing solution to these problems through education, employment, youth development and empowerment.

ā€œThese actions will help to stem the tendency towards violent conflicts in some parts of the countryā€, he added

The former Head of State, who was the special guest of honour at the event, also commiserated with the families of the dead and wounded students in the recent Boko Haram attacks in Federal Government College, Buni-Yadi in Yobe State, even as he condemnedĀ other similar attacks elsewhere.

ā€œYou must reject acts of violence of any sort. But you must embrace and build trust and confidence among one another for the eternal good of your respective countries band your continentā€, he told the youths at the occasion.

  1. The devil is ever the devil, being an ingrate. If we are all afraid of boko haram after they have destroyed so many lives, then, shame unto Nigeria! How many lost lives can they restore? When people who can’t turn their eyes away from woman’s Virginia cause their women to give birth shamelessly, with the riffraff roaming the street, it is blamed on government and poverty. Why won”t there be poverty when all they know is to kill people and loot their property. Later, they foment trouble so that they can loot. That is their religion for you. A religion? Na waaaooo, religion!
