The allegation by a national leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had concluded plans to rig the governorship poll in Ekiti State has been described as reckless talk.
The PDP governorship candidate, Ayo Fayose, who argued that propaganda, name-calling and character assassination have become synonymous with APC, said that Tinubu had only revealed publicly what the APC had planned to do knowing full well that the ruling party in the state cannot win the June 21 election.
Fayose, who made this known through his spokesman, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, in a press statement, claimed that the grand plan of APC was to cause mayhem before and during the election so as to discredit the election results.
Fayose also said that the PDP had uncovered plans by APC to rig the election, stressing, “one of their strategies is collusion with Ekiti INEC officials and buying of voter’s cards from unsuspecting people with N2, 000 or N5, 000
“During my campaign tour to rural areas in Ekiti, many people told me that some APC chieftains came to purchase their cards on the promise to return them but failed to do so. We have lodged complaints at the appropriate quarters and PDP is battle ready to prevent rigging of this poll by whosoever”.
Fayose continued, “It is the ways of life of APC and its leaders to accuse people of what they intend to do.
“Tinubu is not in tune with the reality on ground in Ekiti, he is still living in the past and I am advising him to send a fact-finding team he can trust to Ekiti who will advise him better not to expend his resources on a failed project.
“Fayemi has destroyed education, put Ekiti in debt, impoverished Ekiti people through capital flight. Nobody really wants to return APC to power in this state. APC is like leprosy to the people.
“If Tinubu has alliance with INEC, it is better for him to collect the money he has given to INEC because it will not work. Ekiti people have rejected Fayemi and APC”, Fayose stated.
