Worried by the incessant terror attacks, herdsmen/farmers clashes in some parts of the country as well as other forms of crimes and criminality – kidnappings, abductions trans-border banditry, proliferation of arms and ammunition – taking place in the country, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP MD Abubakar, yesterday convened an emergency meeting with the top police brass in Abuja to appraise the overall security situation and the way forward.

According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Frank Mba, the police IG charged zonal AIGs and the Command CPs to evolve new intelligence gathering and crime-fighting techniques and methodologies customized to suit their respective local challenges.

He also charged the senior officers to improve on their surveillance network and high police visibility across the country and to commence early preparations for the 2015 general elections by conducting adequate threat analysis and intensifying capacity building for electoral policing best practices.
