National Identity Card Would’ve Helped Minimized Insecurity Threat – Mark

david-markSenate President David Mark has asked the National Identity Management Commission to fast track action on the issuance of the biometrics national identity card to Nigerians because it was the needed tool to curtail crimes in the country.

According to a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Paul Mumeh, Mark stated this when he received his new national identity card from the Director General of the NIMC, Mr. Chris Onyemenam, in Abuja.

The senate president expressed optimism that the improved national identity card would guide government in accurate planning, check insecurity and the influx of illegal immigrants.

Mark described the identity card as an essential document that must be given to all Nigerians as a matter of urgency.

He said, “Most of the challenges we are facing today especially insecurity would have been minimized if we had a good national identity card.

“I hope that this new improved national identity card would curb the ills of the past and give Nigerians a sense of national pride”.

The senate president further expressed the hope that the current effort to truly identify Nigerians would be successful but pleaded with Nigerians not to abuse or subvert the project.

The new multi-purpose national identity card, he noted, would address so many imbalances especially the issue of population figure of Nigerians.
