Nigeria To Battle Hosts Senegal For Record Extending 7th AYC Title

Nigeria under-20 national team will play against host nation, Senegal in the final of the Africa Youth Championship on Sunday night in Dakar.

Senegal edged out Mali 2-1 in the second semi-finals on Thursday to book a date with the Flying Eagles who, a day earlier, knocked out Ghana. Mousa Kone’s brace was sufficient to clinch a maiden final ticket for the Senegalese.

Nigeria defeated Senegal 3-1 in the opening game of the 2015 AYC and went on to top Group A, while the Young Teranga Lions scraped a runners-up berth.

The Flying Eagles are appearing in the African U-20 Championship final for the ninth time and have won a record six of those showdown matches, with their only defeats being 0-1 losses to 1999 and 2007 hosts Ghana and Congo respectively.

Sunday’s final will be played at the Stade Leopold Sedar Senghor.

Kick-off: 7:30pm (8:30pm Nigerian time)
