Carrick, Blind, Rojo & Jones Ruled Out Of Chelsea Game

Manchester United will be without the quartet of Michael Carrick, Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones for Saturday’s clash with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

The visit to Premier League leaders, Chelsea, in West London have come thick and fast for Carrick, who sustained a calf problem in the second half of last Sunday’s 4-2 win over Manchester United. Jones and Blind are both out with ankle injuries, and Marcos Rojo has a stomach burg.

“Carrick is injured, he cannot play,” manager Louis van Gaal told the club’s in-house TV, MUTV, on Friday. “But not only Michael Carrick- Daley Blind, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo cannot play.

He continued: “They are all from the game against Manchester City. Blind has played on because he always wants to play on, but the tackle from (Vincent) Kompany was of course the reason.

“Jones, I took him off the pitch already because he injured himself in the second half. Rojo, he was complaining after the match, and Carrick was also off.”

Van Gaal could however call on Luke Shaw and Robin van Persie against the Blues. Shaw, who has no featured for the Red devils since last month’s FA Cup sixth round defeat at Arsenal, available for selection.

“Shaw has trained for a lot of weeks already so he can play,” the 63-year-old said. “Van Persie is another story. This is the first week he’s trained with the first team, but maybe we have to think about him.”
