LP Chair Slams Atiku’s Comment On Two Party, Upbraids APC For ‘Talking Too Much’

Atiku AbubakarThe Labour Party has taken a swipe at former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar over his comment on two-party system against the multi-party democracy that Nigeria operates.

The former VP, who was a guest on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme, which airs every Sunday, said the victory of his party, All Progressives Congress in the just concluded general elections and the relegation of Peoples Democratic Party to the role of opposition confirmed his long-time belief that a two-party system is the best for Nigeria.

In a swift response on Monday, the National chairman of LP, Alhaji Abdulkadir Abdulsalam, said Mr. Atiku erred when he made the comment.

He also condemned the APC for ‘talking too much’ and contradicting itself instead of managing its electoral success and focusing on delivering its electioneering campaigns.

“It is wrong for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, a politician who is supposed to be a democrat, to be saying that it was his dream to see a two-party system for Nigeria. Where would that put the multi-party democracy that we practice and enjoyed and which is acceptable globally? Though there were dominant parties in the advanced democracies, there were still other parties.

“Over 50 parties participated in the recent UK elections, also in Australia, Israel, United States and other places in Europe and even in West Africa, it is multi-party democracy so where did he get his idea from?” the LP chairman queried.

  1. Just wondering why the LP which is known as an arm of the PDP is complaining about Atiku’s comment on two party system in Nigeria?

Anyway the truth they say is always bitter but it must still be said.

For a country like Nigeria, I feel Atiku is not in error supporting the two party system because it will help to eliminate ethnic and religious politic parties and even all the mushroom parties that are affiliated to the bigger parties.

I believe Alhaji Abdulkadir Abdulsalam is crying foul because the role of the opposition is not easy. ..

Kudos to Atiku and APC for wrestling power from the PDP and it’s associates(LP,APGA,etc)

  2. Sometimes if a drowning party like the LP is talking about the suggested two party by Atiku Abubakar is a laughable issue, they have not that the party they are working for which is the PDP is in comatose conditions and beyond redemption. Carry on Turaki and up APC.

  4. Mr Chairman there is nothing wrong with Atiku’s opinion. A two party system i believe will all always gives us a stronger opposition, which is what we need to keep the ruling party on its toes. Have you forgotten so quickly that APC is what it is now as result of a great merger? If we have two strong parties, they can checkmate each other, there by giving Nigerians the governance we deserved.
