Buhari Meet Governors, Reaches Resolution To End States Financial Crisis

PMB-GOVSThe meeting between President Muhammadu Buhari and state governors ended on Tuesday with a resolution to end the financial crisis being experienced by some state governments.

The meeting, which held inside the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, the first of its kind since the president’s inauguration on May 29, was attended by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, 31 governors and two deputy governors.

The Governors present when the meeting started are Emmanuel Udom (Akwa Ibom), Bindow Jibrilla (Adamawa), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Kashim Shettima (Borno), Ben Ayade (Cross River), Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta), Dave Umahi (Ebonyi), Ibrahim Dankwambo (Gombe) and Rochas Okorocha (Imo).

Others are: Badaru Abubakar (Jigawa), Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna), Abdullahi Ganduje (Kano), Aminu Masari (Katsina), Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi), Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara), Akinwunmi Ambode (Lagos), Umaru Al-Makura (Nasarawa), Abubakar Sani Bello (Niger), Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo), Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), Darius Ishaku (Taraba), Ibrahim Gaidam (Yobe), Abdulaziz Yari (Zamfara), Willie Obiano (Anambra), Adams Oshiomhole (Edo), Ayo Fayose (Ekiti), Idris Wada (Kogi), Olusegun Mimiko (Ondo)and  Rauf Aragbesola (Osun).

Governors Simon Lalong (Plateau) and Seriake Dickson (Bayelsa) were represented by their deputies.

Governor, Abdulazeez Yari, who is Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, NGF, spoke to State House Correspondents on the outcome of the meeting.

Yari said instead of bailouts, the governors requested for the refund of Federal Government projects they carried out in their respective states.

He said the governors also asked that the tax paid by the Nigeria Natural Liquefied Gas Company, be paid into the Federation Account and be shared.

The NGF chairman further said they asked the Federal Government to ensure that all monies are paid into the Federation Account for sharing as stipulated by the constitution.
