Torino Full-Back Darmian to Have Medical at Man Utd

Torino full-back Matteo Darmian will have a medical at Manchester United ahead of a reported £12.9m move, manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed.

Darmian, 25, made his Serie A debut as an AC Milan player at age 17 in 2006 and has since featured for Padova and Palermo.

He scored five goals in 47 appearances in all competitions for Torino last season.

United unveiled their new signing Memphis Depay on Friday afternoon, with Van Gaal remaining coy on the rumoured departure of his countryman Robin van Persie to Turkish club Fenerbahce.

The Sun reports that the 31-year-old feels “betrayed” by the Old Trafford club, with his relationship with the former Netherlands boss now broken beyond repair.

Speaking at Friday’s press conference, Van Gaal said: “When we feel we can say that he is going, we will. We don’t have that feeling yet.”

On general transfers, he added: “I said at the end of the season that buying and selling players is a process. The process lasts until 1 September.

“I find it ridiculous the transfer period is so long. I have said that many times. But we are on track.”
