There’s No Other Name For Bunkering Than Stealing, Says Obasanjo

Olusegun_ObasanjoFormer President Olusegun Obasanjo on Tuesday said that bunkering had no other and better appellation than stealing.
He stated this when he played host to the immediate past Commandant General (CG) of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr. Ade Abolurin at his hilltop mansion in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Checking bunkering activities is one of the primary functions of the Corps, after it was promulgated in 2002 under the Obasanjo civilian administration.
While speaking on the activities of the organization during Abolurin’s tenure, the ex-president said the leadership did its best in checking the menace of the illegal bunkers of the country’s petroleum crude and products.
“There is no other name for this bunkering than stealing, and I have to commend you for doing your best to check the menace”, Obasanjo disclosed.
Abolurin, who retired in June, had earlier described the step taken by Obasanjo in giving legal backing to the organization “as historic”, hinting that no fewer than 120,000 have so far been employed across the country.
The team had earlier visited the state governor, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun.
