Andy Murray must feel something in the pit of his stomach every time he discovers he will play against Novak Djokovic in the final of a grand slam.
The final of the French Open on Sunday was an excellent opportunity for Murray to improve a dismal record of having lost five Grand Slam finals to the Serbian but it was not to be.
Djokovic won his first French Open title after beating Murray 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 6-4. It is Djokovic’s 12th major title and he described it as the ‘biggest of his career’.
“It’s a very special moment, the biggest of my career,” said Djokovic. “I felt today something that I never felt before at Roland Garros, I felt the love of the crowd.
