Former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi says he disagrees with the notion that Nigerian states are incapable of paying salaries. He insisted that with prudence and prioritizing, state would be able to pay salaries and still engage in other developmental activities.

Speaking at the 17th Annual Convention of the Igbo Youth Movement at the Nike Lake Hotel, Enugu, Obi, who was named the ‘Best Governor Ever,’ at the event, noted that most of those who could not pay salaries rather spent a lot of money on things that were not necessary.

Obi who was governor of Anambra State for eight years said that when he was in power, he kept no guest houses or charter planes, neither did he travel with more people than necessary, fly Business Class or use bullet proof vehicles. He noted that these unnecessary luxury hit into state funds and affect important things.
