Sheriff Planning To Stop Convention, Destroy PDP – Caretaker C’ttee

Sheriff-MakarfiThe National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, a factional chairman of the party, is planning to stop the August 17 national convention and destroy the PDP.

The Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led caretaker committee is scheduled to hold the convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers State and has announced a national convention planning committee but the Sheriff faction said going ahead with the event would amount to contempt of court.

But the spokesman of the Caretaker Committee, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, said yesterday that the ruling of Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which Sheriff was relying on, was “a mere narrative” of the case before the Federal High Courts in Lagos and ‎Port Harcourt divisions.

Adeyeye argued that Justice Abang did not vacate or nullify the ‎judgment of Justice Mohammed Liman of the Federal High Court, Port Harcourt, which had authenticated the May 21, 2016 national ‎convention of the PDP and the resolutions reached at the convention.

The caretaker committee is a product of the May 21 national convention, which set the stage for the series of litigations and counter-litigations between Messrs. Sheriff and Makarfi.

The caretaker committee, therefore, called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to disregard a letter, it claimed Sheriff had written to it, seeking to stop the convention, saying “he is acting the script of his paymasters”.
