Five people were reportedly killed when suspected Boko Haram militants stormed a village in Southeastern Niger Republic close the border with Nigeria.
The insurgents were said to have entered into the village ridding on camels at night and opened fire on the villagers leaving several people wounded and burning houses.
However, the attack was repelled by a civilian militia in the commune of Toumour, about 75 km (47 miles) from the regional capital Diffa–which has been a target for the Boko Haram terrorists several times who usually come on foot or in vehicles.
Most of the territories previously seized by the insurgents in the Northeastern parts of Nigeria have been liberated by the Nigerian military supported by troops from Niger and Chad.
