The Kaduna State House of Assembly has rejected the nomination of Aliyu Jaafaru as Commissioner for Agriculture, following a Facebook post.

Jaafaru had appeared before the assembly for screening but was rejected by the lawmakers allegedly over his comments against the Nasir El-Rufai led government.

Speaking, Aminu Shagali, the Speaker of the house who presided over the plenary, said the rejection was because of Jaafaru’s criticisms since 2017.

He said “on your Facebook account, you said there was nothing like making Kaduna State great again.

“It is a deceptive clinch used by politicians to deceive the masses; we will make Kaduna great at the appropriate time. “It is a responsibility for those who are truly sincere not for those who are inherently sarcastic.

“You also said El-Rufai must learn to tackle issues with human face, you also said you are an advocate of change that goes to the root cause, not only the symptoms. “You also said in the same post, stop comparing me with El-Rufai who thinks he is more intelligent than intelligence itself.

“You, however, said you are a humble human being that believes that all that glitter is not gold hence there is nothing authoritarian in insisting on the truth and never speak the truth.

“I detest insincerity as there are better ways of genuinely solving problems.”

Briefing journalists shortly after the plenary, the Chairman, Assembly Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Alhaji Tanimu Musa, said: “The evil that men do live even after them, Jaafaru has been a critic of this administration on social media.

“He has been criticizing the government, so why did he want to work with the government you have been criticizing,” Musa said.

  1. I don’t think that the excuse given by the Kaduna State House of Assembly for rejecting the nomination of Jaafar Aliyu as Commissioner under the government of Governor Nasir el-Rufa’i is tenable. The lawmakers’ complaint is that Aliyu criticized el-Rufa’i’s policies in his Facebook account since 2017. It is very childish and despicable. el-Rufa’i himself had once rabidly criticized Muhammadu Buhari before he became President, and now el-Rufa’i roots for Buhari more than any other person. The fact that Aliyu criticized el-Rufa’i in the past does not mean that he has not changed his views. In fact, since el-Rufa’i has deemed it necessary to appoint Aliyu as commissioner, it means that he has forgiven him; and since Aliyu has agreed to serve as el-Rufa’i’s commissioner, it means that he has reversed his opinion on el-Rufa’i. In politics there is no permanent friend or permanent enemy but permanent interest. I expect el-Rufa’i to resubmit the name of Aliyu to the house.
