EFCC Begins Probe Into $16b Power Project During Obasanjo’s Administration

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has started investigation into the $16 billion power project during former President Olusegun Obasanjo‘s administration.

According to the latest report, the anti-graft agency may make some arrests of key contractors involved in the power project scam.

The $16b power scam went beyond Obasanjo’s administration into those of former Presidents Umaru Yar’Adua and Goodluck Jonathan.

 

Student In Court For Removing Man’s Tooth Over Girlfriend’s Unruly Behaviour

Chiagozie Uzor, 21 was arraigned before an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Friday for allegedly plucking out a man’s tooth because of his girlfriend.

Uzor, was charged with conspiracy, assault and breach of the peace but he, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

According to the Prosecutor while speaking in court, Insp. Kehinde Olatunde, the defendant committed the offences on Aug. 11, at 9.30p.m., on Railway Line, near Mainland Hotel, Ebute Meta.

Soldier Who Raped Student At Army Checkpoint Says He Has Mental Challenges

Lance Corporal Sunday Awolola(33), a soldier who allegedly raped a female undergraduate of the Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko (AAAU) has been remanded in prison custody.

A magistrate court sitting in Akure, Ondo State took the decision after granting an application by the police seeking to remand the suspect in prison custody for the police to gather facts against the suspect.

However, his counsel, Kayode Ikotun, filed a counter-affidavit opposing the application, noting that Awolola should not be arguing as he was facing “psychiatric health challenges” and should be granted bail.

DSS Arrests El Zakzaky At The Airport

Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), his wife and entourage have arrived in Nigeria from India.

The group arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja at 11:40am.

But some followers of the popular cleric and journalists were not allowed any access to him, as operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) took him away immediately.

According to Isighzoro, Zoning formula existed between North and South since 1999, from which ‘El Rufai was a major beneficiary during the 2015 governorship elections in Kaduna.

Buhari Not Qualified To Contest Presidential Election — Atiku

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 presidential election and his party have maintained that their claim that President Muhammadu Buhari was not qualified to contest the election has been proven.

This and more were made known in a 43-page final written address which they submitted before the court.

The PDP and its candidate also stressed that the election results were transmitted electronically to a central server allegedly owned by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Buhari Changes Name Of Nigerian Prisons Service

President Muhammadu Buhari has signed into law, a Bill changing the Nigeria Prisons Service (NPS) to Nigerian Correctional Service.

This was made known by the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Ita Enang, while addressing State House correspondents on Wednesday in Abuja.

Buhari said that the Correctional Service comprises Custodial and Non-Custodial Service, noting that the Non-Custodial Service was intended to be a place of reformation and that the person sentenced under this will not stay in custody but will have remediation.

Samson Siasia Reacts To Life Ban By FIFA

Former Supers of Nigeria Coach, Samson Siaisia, has reacted to the life ban handed to him by the Federation of International Football Association(FIFA) by claiming not to have received any letter as regards the sanction.

His reaction was made known by veteran sports journalist, Colin Udoh, who said the former Super Eagles told him that: “I don’t know anything about this. I did nothing wrong and I have not received any letter from FIFA.”
