Pipeline Vandalization: NSCDC To Arrest And Prosecute Conniving Monarchs

The Lagos State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mr Sunday Obafaiye says any traditional rulers found conniving with pipeline vandals will be arrested and prosecuted.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in an interview in Lagos on Sunday, Obafaiye explained that its officers had been deployed to monitor activities of traditional rulers in communities where there are Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) pipelines.

“I am ready to move the security of the state to a higher level. Bunkering will no longer be business as usual in the state.

“We are going to bring to book traditional rulers found conniving with suspected bunkerers in the state.

“We have arrested some bunkerers at Arepo Area, Ogun, and they have confessed that they were doing such criminal business with some traditional rulers.

“We are investigating their confessions. We have posted our armed men to all corners in Lagos State on 24 hour surveillance,” Obafaiye said.

Speaking further, the commandant assured residents of the state of adequate security during the celebrations.

“By our training, there is nothing like accidental discharge. We are well trained on how to handle arms and any officer that misuses his weapon would be punished accordingly.”

Obafaiye said that officers of the command had been warned against indiscipline and riding motorcycles on the restricted roads in the state. [NAN]
