The National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has restated its commitment to ensuring council areas get autonomy.

NULGE President Muhammad Khaleel made the union’s resolve known in Katsina, on Saturday, during the inauguration of the recently elected state executive council.

He lauded the Katsina state chapter of NULGE for its active contribution to the union. “The leadership of Katsina NULGE is active, dynamic and operates within the law of the union.”

Khaleel said NULGE remained committed to its demand for autonomous council areas. He stressed that the demand was in line with aspiration of majority of Nigerians.

“A situation whereby the funds meant for operations of local governments are being hijacked under whatever reason by respective state governments can never be acceptable by NULGE,” he said.
