Governor Umahi To New Ebonyi Commissioners, ‘There’s No Cake To Share’

Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi State has sworn-in 18 commissioners and 27 special advisers, with a stern warning to them to shun corruption.

According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Emma Anya, on Wednesday, Mr. Umahi was quoted as saying that he was in a hurry to develop the state and that he expected the appointees “to hit the ground running”.

He said, “I want to let you know that it is not business as usual. The people have not appointed us to share the cake”.

The commissioners, who were inaugurated yesterday are Senator Emmanuel Onwe (Information and State Orientation); Mrs. Euphemia Nwali, (Culture and Tourism); Mrs. Elizabeth Ogbaga (Commerce and Industry); Mrs. Rebecca Ogbuewu, (Women Affairs) and Augustine Nwankwegu, (Justice).

Other include Uchenna Orji (Agriculture); Chief Emma Uguru (Power); Chief Sunday Inyima (Lands, Housing and Urban Development); Obinna Nwachukwu (Border Peace and Conflict Resolution); Chief Donatus Njoku (Solid Minerals); Dr. Umezurike Akuma Daniel (Health); Akpunike Charles (Sports and Youth Development) and Francis Udu Orji (Water Resources).

Dr. Dennis Ekumankama (Finance); Chief Ogodo Nome (Environment); Prof. John Eke Ubochi (Education) and Solomon Okoronwko (Local Governments).

Umahi, while lamenting the state’s economic predicament, said he was glad that all the political appointees had signed an undertaking to make the necessary sacrifices.
