Court Of Appeal Upholds Tribunal Judgment Sacking Taraba PDP Senator

Bashir MarafaThe Peoples Democratic Party caucus in the Senate was on Tuesday depleted by one as the Court of Appeal sitting in Yola, Adamawa State, upheld a tribunal’s judgment nullifying the election of Bashir Marafa as senator representing Taraba Central Senatorial District.

Marafa had appealed a September 30 ruling of the National Assembly Elections Petitions Tribunal in Taraba State, which nullified his election and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission to issue Certificate of Return to the All Progressives Congress candidate, Yusuf Abubakar.

In their separate judgments on Tuesday, the three judges, Jummai Sankey, Duobele Abraham and Ridwan Maiwada of the Court of Appeal, unanimously agreed the appeal lacked merit and was therefore dismissed.
