“Buhari Needs To Call Tinubu To Order”, Says PDP As They Accuse APC Of Attacks On INEC Offices

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating violence across the county, with intention to disrupt the conduct of the 2023 general elections.

Spokesperson of the party, Debo Ologunagba, at a press conference, yesterday, in Abuja, decried the upsurge in attacks on facilities of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) saying the masterminds sought to frustrate the electoral umpire from conducting next year’s polls.

The PDP said in response to this directive, APC leaders and members have activated plots to derail the electoral process through orchestrated violent attacks in various states of the country.

The party said the target was to trigger a nationwide security emergency situation, instill fear and make it appear in-conducive to conduct elections in the country.

“Part of the plot is the current attacks on the facilities of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in various parts of the country as witnessed in Ogun, Osun and Imo States where sections critical to the conduct of elections particularly those connected to the collection of Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) were targeted and destroyed. Also, our party has been made aware of plans by the APC to orchestrate attacks in other states particularly Kogi and Delta, some states of the South East as well as parts of the North with the view to subverting the electoral process in as many states as possible.”

“They design it to create tension across the country to validate a narrative that elections cannot hold, then orchestrate a constitutional crisis with a view to justifying a shifting of the elections and perpetuate certain APC elements in office beyond May 29, 2023.”

The opposition spokesman, while calling on the security agencies to investigate the APC over the attacks on INEC offices, noted that Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, INEC boss, stated recently that if attacks on its offices continue till January and February, the commission may not be recover from them.

He said intelligence at the disposal of the opposition party indicated that attacks on INEC facilities were aimed at preventing newly registered voters from collecting their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVCs), destroying the PVCs, as well as cripple the capacity of INEC to conduct free elections.

Ologunagba alleged there was a nexus between the charge by APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, to his supporters in London, that power is not served ala carte and the increase in attacks on INEC facilities.

He recalled that the APC candidate, in a closed-door meeting in London with his supporters, earlier this month said: “Political power is not going to be served in a restaurant, it is not served a la carte. It is what we are doing, it is being determined, you do it at all cost, fight for it, grab it, snatch it and run with it.”

“The PDP, therefore, alerts the security agencies to take immediate steps to investigate and stop the APC on its vicious plot to derail our democratic process. The PDP again demands that President Muhammadu Buhari should call Asiwaju Tinubu and his party members to order so that Nigerians can peacefully choose their next president through a free, fair, transparent and credible electoral process.

“The choice of who becomes the president of Nigeria rests on the will of the people through the free exercise of their votes and the APC presidential candidate should come to terms with the resolve of Nigerians to vote in the PDP candidate, Atiku Abubakar as the next president,” PDP said.

Argentina’s Apex Bank “Jokingly” Considers Adding Lionel Messi’s Image On Banknotes

Argentina’s financial governing council are reportedly considering to honor World Cup winner Lionel Messi by adding his image on a 1000-peso note.

The Paris Saint Germaine forward finally lifted FIFA’S heavyweight trophy on Sunday as Scaloni side were crowned world champions after beating Didier Deschamps’ France in a tense penalty shoot-out.

The 35years old  became the first player to win the World Cup Player of the Tournament twice, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner was at his scintillating best throughout this winter’s showpiece event.

However, his influence in the Argentina camp, the country’s Central Bank are thinking about honouring Messi with a remarkable gesture, according to news report from Mexico.

The Mexican publication suggests Argentina’s financial governing body are considering ways of celebrating their World Cup win, and having Messi’s face on the 1000-peso note is said to be a preferred option.

There are also suggestions that “La Scaloneta” – the nickname of manager Lionel Scaloni – will be inscribed on the back of the note.

El Financiero goes on to claim the idea was ‘jokingly’ proposed by members of the Argentine Central Bank.

But Eduardo Hecker and Lisandro Cleri, who is one of the directors, agreed that the banknote design would “awaken the collecting spirit of Argentines”.

“Other guidelines released for the 2023 Hajj by the Ministry included the removal of age barrier or limit and cancellation of PCR Test for the Hajj,” Ubandawaki said.

Similarly, he said that the Saudi Hajj Ministry had also granted the commission the right of choice of package for pilgrims’ services from the Mutawwiffs of African Non-Arab countries.

Osun NNPP Candidates Dump Kwakwanso, To Stage Mega Rally For Tinubu

Some House of Assembly candidates on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party  (NNPP) in Osun State have announced preparation to hold mega rally for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

This is aimed at actualising Tinubu’s ambition of becoming the president of Nigeria come 2023.

The candidates have also commenced house-to-house campaign to canvass votes for Tinubu, who they described as the harbinger of hope for Nigerians.

Four National Assembly candidates of the NNPP had earlier left their presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, in September to  support  Tinubu.

Their dissatisfaction with the leadership of the party at the national level, coupled with the inability of the party stakeholders to work in accordance with the principle of justice, law and democratic running of the party was one of the many reasons the candidates left NNPP.

Afolabi Muideen Abayomi, while speaking on behalf of the party’s House of Assembly candidates in Osogbo yesterday, said they have since realised that the party’s present structure in Osun State lacks vision of a new Nigeria aspired by the citizens.

He stressed that there was no preparation whatsoever in selling their presidential, National Assembly and House of Assembly candidates to the people of the state in less than two months to the general election.

Abayomi disclosed  that during their house-to-house campaign it was discovered that Osun people are so determined to have Tinubu as their president, and canvassing for any other candidates may be an effort in futility, hence, their decision to stick with Tinubu.

“Less than 2 months to the 2023 polls, NNPP has not been campaigning for the presidential candidate of the party, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and other candidates contesting the poll in Osun. We can’t wait any longer.

He, however, said in collaboration with other National Assembly candidates who earlier dumped Kwankwaso, nine Assembly candidates are set to organise a mega rally for Tinubu where masses of the state would be convinced on why they should support the APC candidates.

Both the national and state assembly candidates eulogized “Secretary, Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, Hon. James Abiodun Faleke, for always giving us listening ears and for embracing us, having discovered our ability to deliver Osun for Tinubu.”

He claimed that the shortage will undoubtedly compel airlines to reschedule flights, causing delays and cancellations.

According to him, the unintended development is a pain on airline operators and a stain on the industry especially at this time of mass movement of people for the Christmas and New Year festivities.

He assured that members of the AON will do their utmost to manage the situation and ensure safe flight operations, while pleading the understanding of the traveling public in the circumstance.

He said, “While we do our utmost best to manage the situation and ensure safe flight operations, we plead for the understanding of the travelling public in the circumstance.

“We also call on the concerned authorities including product importers and marketers to do their best to resolve this ugly situation so as to ease the stress it brings on the travelling public.”

Tinubu’s Wife Gifts Over 2,000 Bags Of Rice To Northern Christians

Oluremi Tinubu, wife of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Tuesday donated food items to Christian communities in the North.

At an endorsement ceremony organised by the Christian Northern Nigerian Political Forum (CNNPF) in Kaduna on Tuesday, Oluremi donated over 2,000 bags of rice and wrappers to women, assuring them of inclusive administration if her husband is elected president.

Oluremi, who is also an Assistant Pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God, maintained that her husband’s track record of inclusiveness made his campaign promises regarding equitable representation believable.

Coordinator of CNNPF, Ibrahim Itodo, reminded the Christian communities of the nation’s need for a visionary leader.

Itodo pointed that if Mr Tinubu could turn Lagos state into a thriving economy, he would lead the nation out of its current socio-economic and security challenges.

He said the issue of the APC Muslim-Muslim ticket, conceived to Islamise Nigeria, was a past issue and had been resolved.

Also, chairman of the Northern Christian Youth Professionals (NCYP), Isacc Abrak, said they graced the event to show the world that Christians in northern Nigeria knew who Tinubu was.

He said that the Northern Christians had understood and bought the idea of Tinubu’s choice of Muslim as a running mate.

“Northern Christians have understood that the Muslim-Muslim ticket by Tinubu is basically for strategy and not as wrongly said and perceived by other Christians that it was a look down on them.

“When Tinubu emerges the President, he will carry the Northern Christians and everybody along, so we are at this event to show the country that we are with the him and his wife,” Abrak said.

He explained, “To quench that assertion of Northern Christians that Tinubu doesn’t care about them, we mobilised ourselves massively from the 19 Northern states to show our solidarity with Tinubu and the APC.”

He further said that Tinubu is competent leader looking at his antecedent.

“Tinubu has changed Lagos State, he is going to change Northern Nigeria, he will bring mass youths employment to solve our insecurity,” Abrak said.

Oluremi however called for a minute’s silence in honour of the recent 38 people slain by bandits in Kaduna’s Kaura local council area.

Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk Agree Title Unification Fight

Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk have agreed to fight each without either taking a bout in the interim, confirms promoter Bob Arum; Fury versus Usyk would be an undisputed heavyweight championship fight, and the UK is still in the running to host it.

The two hold all four of the major heavyweight world title belts between them and their richly anticipated fight would decide the undisputed heavyweight world championship.

Bob Arum of Top Rank, the US company that co-promotes Fury with Queensberry Promotions in the UK, revealed to Sky Sports that neither Fury, the WBC champion, nor Usyk, the unified WBO, WBA and IBF heavyweight titlist, would take a bout before that showdown.

Fury and Usyk are set on having the undisputed contest in early 2023, with only the exact date and the location to be finalized.

“The two fighters have agreed to fight each other next,” Arum told pressmen.

“With Fury and Usyk we’re dealing with two adults, not a lot of [rubbish] back and forth. Usyk is a good friend of mine, he’s very intelligent and Tyson is Superman, both as an athlete and as an intellect,” he continued.

“So they want the fight. Both of them want the fight and so there’ll be very little, if any, [messing] around. So we’ll be able to make that happen. I’m very, very confident. As I said the fighters have both agreed to fight each other next without any interim fights.”

The UK is still in the running to host the fight, despite lucrative offers to take it to a venue in the Middle East.

“Now the question is what’s the date and what’s the site,” Arum said. “But that fight is definitely going to happen and it will happen in the first four months of next year.

ADC Won’t Be Forming Alliance With APC, PDP, Others – Says Kachikwu

Dumebi Kachikwu, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC),  has disclosed the party will not be forming alliance with either the Labour Party (LP), the All Progressives Congress (APC)or Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The presidential candidate stated this as he commended the Federal High Court in Abuja which sacked the former chairman of the party, Ralph Nwosu, and his Executive Council.

Justice Binta Nyako had removed the Nwosu-led leadership of ADC and nullified all actions taken by them from August 21 2022 till date.

Binta affirmed Patricia Akwashiki’s leadership which conducted the primary that produced Kachikwu.

Reacting to the development, Kachikwu said the ruling was a Christmas gift for the ADC which will now focus on rebuilding and taking its campaign to the Nigerian people.

He said: “Change must start from within and this change has started within the ADC. I am sending a strong warning to APC, PDP, and the Labour Party; ADC will not trade or negotiate any mandate. If you paid any money to anybody go and collect your money back.

“Nwosu did everything possible to destroy our party and our collective ambitions all for personal gain.

”He and his management encouraged down-ballot candidates to enter negotiations with other parties thus further strengthening the prevalent view that smaller parties are only in the race to negotiate payments with bigger parties.

“This will never be the story of ADC going forward. We will exterminate this anti-democratic cankerworm that almost destroyed our party and build a party that will be the pride of all Nigerians.”

Again, London Court Denies Ekweremadu Bail

The Central Criminal Court, London, also known as Old Bailey has again denied Ike Ekweremadu, former Deputy Senate President bail, saying he is a flight risk.

The court, which gave its verdict at a pre-trial hearing in London on Tuesday, cited the letter and assets forfeiture proceedings against the Senator by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)

Ekweremadu’s attorneys in a bail application had argued that the Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and the Attorney-General of the Federal had written the court that Ekweremadu was not a flight risk and gave a guarantee to produce him should he do otherwise.

The attorneys also told court that the Nigeria High Commission in the UK had equally given the option of tagging Ekweremadu electronically to monitor his movement.

They further told the court that they had sureties and securities of nearly half a million pounds sterling from 11 people to secure Ekweremadu’s release on bail.

However, prosecution insisted that Ekweremadu was a flight risk, contending that as a holder of international passports from two other countries, the lawmaker could escape to any of the other countries asides from Nigeria.

EFCC had earlier indicted Ekweremadu 8th July 2022 and vowed to immediately institute assets forfeiture proceedings and criminal processes against him following his detention in London, via a letter on behalf of the Executive Chairman, Abdulraheed Bawa signed by the Assistant Director Operations, Abdulkarim Chukkoi.

The Recorder of London said: “I am entirely satisfied there remains a flight risk as the trial is just over a month away. Consequently, this bail application is refused.”

Ekweremadu’s trial is expected to commence at the end of January 2023.

The Specialist Crime Team of the Metropolitan Police in London had in the middle of the year, arrested Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, and charged them for organ harvesting.

Brazil To Pay Homage To Lionel Messi At Maracana Stadium

Despite many detractors and plenty who were backing France in the World Cup final, the outpouring of happiness for Argentina’s victory, not just from Argentines but all over the world, has been unprecedented.

The Albiceleste managed to crown the most dramatic run to the trophy with a victory on penalties over France, returning home to astounding scenes in Buenos Aires.

For many in Brazil, this will no doubt be a bitter pill to swallow. To the surprise of many though, even some Brazilians were backing Argentina.

Earlier in the tournament, Ronaldo Nazario admitted he would be happy to see Messi win the World Cup, while Pele also sent a message of congratulations to Argentina after their win.

Now it appears matters are going a bit further. As per Sport, the administrator of the Maracana hall of fame has sent an invitation to the Argentina Football Association asking Messi to join their hall of fame. The likes of Pele, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho and Garrincha are in their hall of fame and several have their footprints immortalised in clay.

This is an unusual acknowledgement from one of football’s fiercest rivalries. It is worth recalling that just last year Messi lifted the Copa America at the Maracana after a bad-tempered match with Brazil. These events would have seemed surreal last year.
