Hope Uzodinma

Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma has stated that his Yobe State counterpart Mai Mala Buni remains the the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress’ Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee.

Buni’s position had come under scrutiny last week after Governor Abubakar Bello of Niger State assumed the Chairmanship position.

Bello took over after Buni had left the country for medical treatment.

The Niger State Governor’s chairmanship is said to backed by the President, according to Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna, amid reports that Buni was planning on delaying the APC’s planned convention this month.

However, speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Monday, Uzodimma said due process will have to be followed for Buni to be removed from his position.

“APC is a very serious party,” he said. “Everything going on at the secretariat now are going on with the knowledge of Mai Mala Buni. And as soon as he comes back, he will also take over the realms of the party.”

“To remove Buni, a meeting of the National Executive Committee must be convened, Uzodimma added.

“The right organ of the party to take and implement such decisions is the National Executive Committee. Have we summoned that committee? Because if we do, INEC will be invited to observe. And if they observe, whatever decision taken will be known to them.”

He said, “This ticket is not an airline ticket. We are talking about having a presidential candidate. It is a decision of the party. It has to be a collective decision.

“Nobody will get the presidential ticket because he spoke good English on the television. Nobody will get the presidential ticket because he was abusing people on television. It is a decision of the party and many factors will be responsible — covert and overt factors — because at the end of the day, the ticket will be given to a name that can win the election. Winnability is the name.”

Why ASUU Strike Lingers – Tambuwal

Why ASUU Strike Lingers – Tambuwal
Tambuwal

Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has attributed the lingering strike by university lecturers to the lack of political will by the past leaders of the country to sincerely address the problems of the education sector.

He made the observation when a coalition of northern students on Monday endorsed his presidential aspiration for the 2023 general elections in Dutse, Jigawa State.

The governor, who was represented by the State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Comrade Bashir Usman Goron, tasked students to keep on struggling to ensure that campuses are reopened for academic activities within the shortest time possible.

Tambuwal, who challenged the youths to reflect on the current situation of the country, warned that nobody would secure the future of the country for the youths unless they took the gauntlet.

The former Speaker of the House of Representatives wondered why the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has to embark on strike during every administration.

He stated that the development could be connected with the lack of political will to address the issues raised by ASUU.

According to him, “The issue of FG/ASUU is a cause for concern to all right-thinking Nigerians.

“We all know what the problems are, yet it has been lingering for more than 15 years now and up till now, there appears no end in sight.

“No government appears willing to solve the problems.

“Apart from the lack of political will to solve the problems, I believe the government should engage constructively with the teachers and don’t promise what they cannot afford, that I believe is what has kept the issue lingering till date.

“As far as I’m concerned, you (students) are the ones to fight for the future of education in the country.

“You are the ones that will struggle for the education of this country.

“Therefore, as long as we keep mute, believe me, our universities will remain closed for a long time.”

“The Federal Government has completely failed and I want to call on President Muhammadu Buhari to accept the fact that he has failed this country and I want to advise him to honourably resign as president of Nigeria.

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma has stated that it will amount to “ingratitude” for people from the south-east to say President Muhammadu Buhari neglected the region.

Uzodinma stated that only the Buhari-led administration fulfilled the promise of completing the second Niger bridge.

On March 8, Babatunde Fashola, minister of works and housing, said the second Niger bridge will be completed in April.

Speaking on Monday in an interview with Channels, the Imo governor said successive governments before Buhari’s administration paid lip service to the completion of the bridge.

“Today, whether you like it or not, the party to beat is APC. I come from the south-east. Since after the civil war, the only gateway out of the south-east — the entire old eastern Nigeria — was that old river Niger bridge,” he said.

“Government after government came, made promises and paid lip service to the promises. From 1979 to 1983 — the second republic — we were promised the second Niger bridge.

“From 1999 to 2007, we were promised the second Niger bridge. Until 2015, President Muhammadu Buhari, as I speak to you, has spent over N360 billion

“Only last week, I was watching television. I saw the chief of staff to the president, minister of works, minister of labour and productivity inspecting the joining of the bridge for commissioning within the next three months.

“It would be a thing of ingratitude for anybody to come from that region to talk about President Buhari neglecting the old eastern bloc.”

“The spate of insecurity across many states, political and economic uncertainties in the country and the states have placed the office of the attorneys-general on red alert in ensuring that the states are not ambushed through frivolous cases/court orders that may lead to heavy financial losses and grounding of government business,” he said.

Wike Tackles Obaseki: Betrayal Is In Your DNA… Oshiomhole Warned Us

Wike Tackles Obaseki: Betrayal Is In Your DNA… Oshiomhole Warned Us
Wike

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has accused Godwin Obaseki, his Edo state counterpart, of “serial betrayal”.

Obaseki and Wike are both governors on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

They have been at loggerheads in recent days, trading words and accusations.

While speaking at an event in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Wike tongue-lashed Philip Shaibu, Edo deputy governor, for daring to threaten the PDP.

Shaibu had appeared on a Channels Television programme where he said he and Obaseki may leave the PDP if the party continues to treat them as outcasts.

Reacting, Wike described the deputy governor as an “ingrate” and called on the PDP to discipline him.

In response, Obaseki defended his deputy and noted that Edo does not “accept political bullies and overlords”.

Speaking at an event in Rivers on Monday, Wike said he regrets backing Obaseki in the 2020 governorship election.

“If you go and check the DNA of Obaseki, what you will see in that DNA is betrayal, serial betrayal, and ungratefulness,” Wike said.

“Let me stand today to apologise to Adams Oshiomhole who has been vindicated by telling us that we will see the true colour, we will see the insincerity, we will see the ungratefulness of Governor Obaseki.

“Let me apologise to Adams Oshiomhole to say you have been vindicated. You are right, we are wrong.

“I have never seen people who are so ungrateful in life. I will never betray any man. What is my DNA is sincerity, consistency and teamwork.

“Assuming, though not conceding, I threatened the party, I have invested in the party. Rivers state has invested in the party.

“We have voted for PDP since 1999 till now; ask Governor Obaseki — has he done anything for PDP? Has he voted for PDP? The only election he voted was his own election where we gave him an umbrella.

“So who has more stake in PDP? I have more stake because I have supported PDP always. You have never supported PDP, rather it was when your godfather chased you away, that you came begging.”

FG Hands Over Houses To Winners Of 1994 African Cup Of Nations

Houses have been allocated to winners of the 1994 African Cup of Nations by the Federal government.

At the official commissioning of the Housing Project under the National Housing Programme (NHP) Phase 1 in Abere, Osun State today March 14, President Buhari said the gesture is better late than never and that the players can pick up the keys to their houses at their preferred states.

The President who was represented by the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, stated that the motive of the federal government was beyond improving the human condition of living through the housing projects, but it also provides an opportunity to fulfil the pledge it made.

“There is more to our message of change and improving the human condition in these housing projects.

They make possible, that which had seemed impossible. It provides an opportunity to remember our heroes, the valiant Super Eagles, to whom our country made a promise of providing housing for winning the 1994 African Cup of Nations, which has remained unfulfilled before now.

On behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria, it is a great honour for me to redeem the promise Nigeria made to these patriotic Nigerians, even if belatedly.

Any one of them can pick houses from any of the 36 states. I invite you to pick from that which is being commissioned today.

As the saying goes, it is better late than never and I have approved allocation to redeem the outstanding allocation to 22 members of the Super Eagles in National Housing Estate located in their state of choice, and their keys and title documents will be handed over at the commissioning in their state while the remainder of the housing is allocated to willing members of the public,” the President stated.

The project commissioned on Monday consists of 72-units of the housing, comprising 24-units in a condominium (1 bedroom-4, 2bedroom-16, 3 bedroom-4), 28-units 2 (Two) Bedrooms and 20-units 3 (Three) Bedroom bungalows.

Nigeria has been plunged into darkness following the collapse of the national electricity grid on Monday, March 14.

The national electricity grid crashed to zero following its loss of 1,100 megawatts (MW) from a 3,700MW peak generation earlier.

Daily Trust reported that as at 1pm on Monday March 14, the system was yet to pick up load as just three Generation Companies (GenCos) were trying to restart but yet to generate any energy.

According to the grid operation trend, of the active 25 GenCos on the grid, 19 of them were producing power as of 6am when the grid had 3,867.60MW but that began to reduce gradually until it dropped to 2,761.20MW by 10am after six GenCos went down, leaving just 13 GenCos.

At least 1,100MW was lost from the 3867MW peak generation when the five GenCos shut down. The affected plants include Azura-Edo IPP (Gas) which was generating 447MW earlier. Shiroro hydropower which had 300MW earlier went off; Trans-Amadi (Gas) lost 92MW; Alaoji NIPP (Gas) lost 75MW; Ihovbor NIPP (Gas) also lost 101MW.

Some Electricity distribution companies (DisCos) in the country have also confirmed that the recent collapse of the grid which occurred by 10:40am, disrupted power supply within their networks.

Eko Electricity Distribution Company Limited (EKEDC) apologized to customers and promised to keep them updated on the situation.

Two Suspected Ritualists Caught Trying To Take Woman’s Urine After She Peed On The Road (Video)

Video footage captures the moment two young men suspected to be ritualists were caught trying to take a woman’s urine in Benin.

According to the report, this happened around Evbotubu Bustop, Benin City, Edo State. The men rushed to take the waste product after the woman answered the call of nature on the road, however, they ran out of luck as they got caught by some youths.

One of the men who was being interrogated tried to justify his actions by saying anyone could pack any person’s urine and he gathered it with the intention of disposing it; a statement of defence that seemed quite illogical.

The second guy was the one who opened up as he tried to exonerate himself from the evil deeds of his partner by saying he told him he never wanted to partake in money ritual.

Obaseki To Wike: PDP Not Your Personal Property — Don’t Be A Bully

Obaseki To Wike: PDP Not Your Personal Property — Don’t Be A Bully
Obaseki

Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo, has advised his counterpart in Rivers, Nyesom Wike, to “show respect” to party members.

Obaseki and Wike are both governors on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Edo governor was reacting to Wike’s comment on his deputy, Philip Shaibu.

While speaking at an event in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Wike tongue-lashed Shaibu for daring to threaten the PDP on television.

Shaibu had remarked on a Channels Television show that if the PDP continues to treat him and Obaseki like outcasts, he and Obaseki may leave the party.

The remark irritated Wike, who claimed that the PDP offered Obaseki and Shaibu the party’s ticket after the All Progressives Congress (APC) denied them during the 2020 state election.

Wike stated that he has written to the national leadership of the party to sanction the deputy governor for the remark.

Reacting to the development in a statement he personally signed, Obaseki said his deputy “at no point threatened the party” as alleged by the Rivers governor.

“The recent personal attacks by His Excellency, the Governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Nyesom Wike, against my Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu is, to say the least, most unfortunate and totally uncalled for,” the statement reads.

“If Governor Wike was one who wants to show respect and courtesy to his colleague-governors, he would have ordinarily reached out to me to express his concerns about the views made by my deputy governor, rather than embarking on this unwarranted public onslaught.

“My deputy governor was a former National President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and his comment is representative of the essence of the nation’s youth population, who are inclined to openly speak up and question the status quo. If Governor Wike cannot understand and adequately respond to the style and character of the Nigerian youth, how can he aspire to lead them?

“His Excellency, Governor Wike should have taken a cue from the manner in which the National Chairman of our party, Sen. Dr. Iyorchia Ayu, responded to my deputy’s remarks, as a conscientious leader who is able to show empathy and consideration.

“The concerns expressed by my deputy governor bordered on pertinent issues affecting the PDP in Edo State which since the September 19th 2020 elections, has been able to register over 500,000 members; and to date, these new members have not been properly integrated into our party after two years. Also, the leaders, executives and members who came with me into the party have still not been accepted, integrated or harmonized into the party.”

New Convert Steals Video Cameras, Accessories From Church After Receiving ‘Salvation’

A man identified as David Wanyonyi Simiyu, is currently on the run after he allegedly stole two video cameras and their accessories from a church in Nairobi, Kenya.

It was gathered that Simiyu had received salvation at Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) Zimmerman Parish on Sunday, March 6, 2022.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), in a statement on Saturday, March 12, said that Simiyu allegedly stole the media equipment the same day as the faithful were praying and sold them to unscrupulous dealers.

“Two video cameras and their accessories that were stolen from a city-based Church last Sunday as the service was ongoing, have been recovered by detectives,” the statement read.

“The two professional cameras worth close to Sh1Million disappeared from the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) Zimmerman Parish, as the faithful were deep in prayers.

“It is not until the service was over that the church orderlies noticed the cameras were missing, much to the consternation of the congregants and the clergy.

“The Church leadership notified our detectives and sleuths from the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, immediately took up the matter. It didn’t take long for the revered crime busters to unmask the author of the crime.”

After intensive investigations, detectives established that a recent convert who had received salvation in the Church, was the mastermind behind the disappearance.

David Wanyonyi Simiyu, from Trans-Nzoia county took off with the equipment and sold it to unscrupulous dealers, at Nairobi’s Imenti business hub.

Forensic analysis and surveillance conducted via the DCI mobile laboratory in the heart of Nairobi’s Central Business district, led detectives to the suspects who bought the equipment.

The three Joshua Mulei, Douglas Karanja and Stephen Thuo, who trade in stolen electronic equipment, were unmasked technologically through forensics, in DCI’s new order of conducting business. The two cameras and their accessories were also recovered from the suspects.

The trio are currently in custody at Muthaiga police station as detectives intensify a manhunt for the main thug, David Simiyu.

Meanwhile, the PCEA Zimmerman clergy have since forgiven Simiyu, in accordance with the scriptures and like the prodigal son have welcomed him back to the flock tomorrow.
